From a young age, Sarah Brown has always had a penchant for the arts, but it was in interior design that she found her true calling. Behind her career choices lies an exciting mix of music and aesthetics. In this interview, she tells us about her unique journey and shares the mission of her company, Sarah Brown Design.

What drove you to interior design?

My heart has always beaten to the rhythm of music. Since my childhood, I've been known as "the violinist" among my peers. Music was my first love, leading me to pursue a degree in music therapy. But another passion was brewing within me, that of interior design. Fascinated by the transformation of spaces, by the magic of a reinvented room, I realized that this passion was more than just a hobby. After some introspection, I chose to follow my instinct and dive back into studies to explore the world of interior design. And I've never looked back.

You studied music therapy; how does that influence your current work?

Music therapy uses music to heal and comfort. It serves to stimulate, soothe, or even release emotions. It taught me listening, patience, and understanding. Essential qualities in interior design. Just as in music therapy, I need to decipher the needs of my clients to design spaces that reflect them, where they can thrive.

Why did you create Sarah Brown Design?

After working as a kitchen designer and freelance designer, I felt the need to offer a more personalized experience. So, I founded Sarah Brown Design in 2010, strengthening my professional network and offering my clients a comprehensive approach, from conception to execution.

What is the philosophy of Sarah Brown Design?

My ambition is simple: to transform living spaces into calming and functional places. I firmly believe that a well-designed space has the power to enrich our daily lives. That's why my company does not just aim to create beautiful interiors but also strives to make them organized and practical.

What challenges have you faced in your career and how did you overcome them?

Like any entrepreneur, my journey hasn't been without its obstacles. Balancing client expectations with my creative vision is always a delicate act. Early on, I sometimes struggled to communicate the importance of certain design choices, leading to compromises that didn't fully realize the potential of a space. But over time, I've learned the value of effective communication and collaboration. Engaging clients in the design process, understanding their perspectives, and educating them about the nuances of design have been crucial in ensuring that the final result is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Any advice for budding interior designers?

For those aspiring to make a mark in the world of interior design, my advice is to stay curious and always be open to learning. The field is ever-evolving, with new trends, materials, and technologies emerging all the time. Stay updated, attend workshops, and never shy away from seeking mentorship. But most importantly, find your unique voice. While it's essential to understand industry standards and trends, it's your personal touch that will set you apart. And remember, every space you design has the power to impact someone's daily life – approach each project with empathy, passion, and a touch of magic.
